So let's see... it makes sense that these fuckers wait until I have been asleep for 6 hours such that there is gold and purple shit sitting around in the mines and purple shit extractors rather than the tubs.
When I go looking, I ignore anything that won't be profitable or would cost me a win. But I want loot AND rating. If I just wanted loot, I would look at anything where I could expend less troops and come out ahead, ideally where I could deploy troops and still manage to lose while stealing their resources.

These hand you rating. Nothing will stop these players who are trying hard to keep their rating low such that they can go HAM on lootsacks with no defenses. Since you aren't that, you get handed rating.

Electricity in a jar is an lightning bolt spell. It costs him thousands of elixir and half an hour build time, so he may just be looking to trade elixir for gold at whatever rate he can get. These attacks are rare because they are foolish, but if you spread out loot banks a bit they won't hurt you. Of course, spreading out your banks leaves you open to other attacks.

These all want loot AND they want to lose. To avoid their attacks, have a base that refuses them loot unless they crush you (the first and third guy could not, the second and fourth guys might have been able to if they were willing to deploy in full). I think your new base is better at this than your old one. I think the reason these strategies kind of work is because these guys sort of go in a circle taking out building after building, and each building is either loot (the collectors) or lets them progress further (the defense).

I have no idea what these people are doing. I suspect they are stupid, or... bots? They definitely want to tank their rating, but that's so very much to deploy. I think "they are stupid stupid" is the going bet here.

At t=18min, 60 blondes for 11327gp and 11183ps. FUCK!This is surprising because he's able to be so effective. I've been sending you giants, but I think I should send you minions or mages instead. The blondes tear the fuck out of giants if they swap to them, but they target the closest thing so minions (air) or mages (aoe range) should work better. I will switch if you will request troops. You can throw away your existing troops by going on offensive and using them, they should be helpful. Again, the troops I can send you cost almost nothing, so please spam the request button and don't be shy about requesting stuff. I don't have what the veterans have, but I should be able to be more helpful than I have been. Also consider putting your clan HQ *inside* the base. You don't want them to just be able to avoid it by deploying on your south or west sides.
Shocking is that this kind of beating didn't give you a shield. IMO that is what we need to fix.
> At t=27min, 10 level 2 giants and 60 level 2 blondes for 21233gp and 8557ps and my first actual "loss."
Correct, this is the first loss. And it's reasonable to lose to this kind of offensive unless you are just built to repel it.

So to me, this just seems completely fucked up. Maybe it's normal, but I don't see how you can ever get enough money to level up if you just keep getting the shit kicked out of you every morning before you even wake up and lose everything. I haven't attacked anyone and I have 426 points. I'm still working on the damned single player part.
Ok, first, you should absolutely attack other players. The single player part is shit on a stick in this game for the most part, and you'll quickly get to the point where you can't hurt the base without expending vastly more resources than the goblin base actually has. Many will have crazy shit like three mortars. A player base can't have three mortars until level fucking seven, but it took me all of like twenty minutes to see bases with three mortars and two anti-air. I was utterly unable to progress without dramatically overlevelling those things, at which point the few thousand you can get did not help.
What you should do is, when your shield is down and you have troops, go raid enemy bases. Once you have some successes, you will be placed in a "league", and your league rating will give you a small amount of gold and elixir on a victory.
Given that you are having a frustrating time, I suggest these things:
1)- Try to make a THREE part base, or even four. Each part can easily be entered by a wall breaker or giant stack, but the troops, once inside, will be hard to command or predict. The giants will go for every defense in the area, so you can put your spring traps there if you have those, and then the giants will start beating on a random inner wall to get to another part of your base, while the generalist blondes and archers will attack whatever is closest, even if that thing is not very smart.
2)- In your base, put your gold and elixir banks. Put 1-2 banks in each of your 3-4 parts. Keep them on opposite sides, so that someone seeking, say, gold, can't just deploy north and get both your gold banks. Also put your headquarters, and every defensive building.
3)- Your most valuable defense is your mortar. So put that in the least lucrative position, because they will want to kill it just because it makes their life hard. Mortars can't hit air troops, but there aren't many of those and the ground troops are effective and cheap.
4)- The wizard tower is a very strong defense, but it's reasonable vulnerable. I would put it in range of a mortar so that they can defend each other. Note that if they are adjacent a clever enemy will spam giants and lighting into them to neutralize your defenses, but that's still decent.
5)-
Put your collectors outside your base. Or, at least most of them. Collectors are viewed by the goblins as just as great a target as the bank, and as such enemy goblins will play ring-around-the-basey, eating collectors as they go but also getting sniped by your defenses. That's generally fine.
6)- You want to predict enemy giants, and put the spring traps where they will be. Enemy giants tunnel defenses, so they should be inside your outerwalls and right where a stack of giants might walk up to a tower. If you put them outside, they will usually only trigger on a couple troops. Troops tend to clump as the fight goes on.
At some level, it unlocks the ability to save base templates. So you could have one that guards just your gold mines and gold collectors, one that does that same for elixir things, and one that is generalist. You can edit an inactive base without hurting your main base or whatever (aka, your changes will be saved to that template). I don't remember when it gives you this, but you don't need to jump through any hoops for it. You access this through a button on the right (Shop, above that gears, above that norse milf, above that hand with two arrows- it's "hand with two arrows" that you want).
