Yay! A new campaign chatting place.

I think it would be good for Jon to put up some info for us on here if he has time so we can get a feeling of what this world is. I would at least like to know the gods so I can include that in my characters back story.

I'm pretty sure all the gods are a color of the rainbow. Collectively, they are known as the Anal Pantheon. If I were you, I'd go with violet... it's the one at the end of the chain.

I don't think it's ever advisable to choose the caboose at the end of the Anal Pantheon.

I think the caboose is the only open anus. All the others are full. Pick whichever one you like.

There will be another name for this forum eventually, once he comes up with something.

It is my opinion, upon careful consideration, that Cooley should play a Ranger. I think this would give him some spell casting, but focus on melee.

My understanding is this...

Sweetcheeks: Elven cleric/archer (I fully expect a "healing arrow" in my ass)
PAR: 75% chance dwarven paladin, 25% chance wizard
Yeti: Human fighter/rogue.
Cooley: Druid/rogue, Ranger, or something else.
Me: Pixie sorcerer.

If we end up with a pixie sorcerer, a cleric, a wizard, a rogue, and a druid, we're all going to die horribly. Well, you will. I'll actually be fine and eagerly awaiting the next party. But since Jay likes to be the melee gal, I think he/she will not go more than half rogue. I'm hoping Cooley also moves towards melee and away from spellcasting.

It is also my opinion that all of you should post in here more because while this thermal thingy is running, I am insanely bored.

I'm leaning a little more toward wizard, because I know that the pixie will be stunted in terms of arcane spellcasting, and I think we've all figured out that a party lacking sufficient arcane ability will fail horribly. While I enjoy the thought of roleplaying a dwarven paladin, I think that for the good of the party, I need to focus a bit more on arcane spellcasting.

Not that I can't have fun coming up with a fun race/class combo that allows arcane spellcasting. It just means that I probably won't be going with the typical elf or human wizard.

I do agree that we'll need more melee as well. If cooley plays a straight druid, it's possibly that he could build it such that he's sufficiently capable in melee with a nice backup arsenal of druid spells. Dual-wield scimitars and a badass companion FTMFW. I think Jay needs at least a 50/50 split on rogue and fighter, or we're going to make it way too easy on John with traps and such.

The thing is that the pixie won't be awful, it just... ahh... it's hard to explain. I'm going to have a "you all want to fuck me" charisma, so the DC on everything I do will be tricky. So it won't be a Fireball for 10d6 when you're all 10th level. Instead, I'll use Sleep with a high DC or something of the sort.

We can do it with me as the only arcane caster. But it also won't hurt if I'm not. What I strongly recommend against is a half wizard/half something else. That's because neither one of us would be able to cast teleport, and that's bloody useless.

If you go wizard, then Cooley needs to go melee. There's no other way around it.* A druid, as you said, can be set up more for melee than not. Maybe a druid/fighter hybrid or something. I played a barbarian/druid once, and it worked very well.

*Except, of course, for using a Memory Loss arrow on an unsuspecting fighter and making him our new NPC. **

**We need to make sure this guy never gets a Heal or he will be very cross with me.

I sent this to H, but got no response:

So I have been looking around, and I found the prestige class of Ghost Shadow Mage. First question is would you allow this class?

For my character, I'm toying with the idea of a female elf or human/elf.

Basically, I like the idea of being a rogue that can cast, and fight in melee, but also cast offensive spells (am a little tired of casting heal's)...

I am also looking at arcane trickster, and that pointed me to the wu jen class (which I believe would mean I would be a rogue/wu jen then getting to the arcane trickster when I meet the requirements.

What are your thoughts? Advice?

So I'll just throw it out here and see what you think. I still want to have some ability to cast, but I'm okay in melee too. I just don't want to be strictly a melee character.

I've also since looked at the straight assassin class, and that is a bit appealing too...

Do you hate me?

I'm going to be honest, Cooley. You really don't want to be much of a caster. It takes a lot more homework than you have the time for. You simply cannot be an effective caster without reading every spell several times and understanding the nuances of them. Not just once, but until you know exactly what the spells do. You know how you read spells every time we're in battle? That doesn't work. You need to know exactly what your spells do before you sit down to game. This involves putting the players handbook, the DMG, and complete arcane next to your shitter and going until your legs fall asleep (honestly, this happens very quickly playing Angry Birds. I think it has to do with the posture).

Ranger gets some spells, but not many. Or going with part druid and part something else, which is why I suggested that. Being a split wizard/fighter will get even more complex with the rules. You will need to understand arcane spell failure, concentration, casting defensively, etc. No one is going to ask you to be the healer again. You don't have to deal with that shit again until everyone does it once.

It's between you and John, of course, not me. But that's my opinion. If you want to do it, you have to do the homework. When your turn comes in battle, you need to already know what you're doing.

You, PAR, and Yeti will need to work out some level of party balance as well. This is my first chance to be a character in 4 years, so I'm going with the pixie sorcerer. Sweetcheeks is sacrificing himself to be the healer. Yeti is somewhere between all melee and all rogue, and PAR is bouncing between pure melee and pure wizard.

The druidy/something else can be a lot of fun. That is what Kaliq was and he was a blast to play with the dual wielding. You get some offensive spells but can also stand at the front line and make a difference in melee. Just make sure you take the punching clown feat. I think my cleric needs to help you with that though. Just so everyone knows, be prepared to have all your heals delivered by something pointy.

Just keep in mind that he will be a wise, dexterous, and probably strong elf with the power of his god to back him. He will also likely be of reasonable heartiness.

In other words, he will be one seriously stupid and ugly SOB. Probably with pock marks and a steady drool.

In no way will I be a caster. While it is fun to think about, I am waaaay too lazy for that kind of homework.

I am thinking duelist. A dual weilding... duelist...

The casting thing doesn't scare me. And I'm not looking to be a full sorcerer or anything, I'm basically looking for a prestige class that will let me do a little combat casting as a rogue.

But looking at our line up, we have:

Markypoo - Pixi Sorcerer
PAR - Wizard by the sounds of it.
Jay - Fighter/rogue/meat shield
Sweets - Elvin cleric healer/archer

Since we only have one real combatant there, I agree that we are in need of another meat shield as with the above line-up, we'll just all be hiding behind Jay while he does all the heavy work.

I'll think on this and see what else I can come up with...

Jon, take a look in The Complete Warrior handbook. There is some pretty neato things in there.

Also, Complete Adventurer has some great stuff, and Complete Scoundrel has some decent stuff if you can skim through the crap.

I am at the movie theatre catching the late night whatever because my power is out.

I really want to say- every should play what they want to play. There could be some problems with that, but if you want am arcane trickster, or assassin, ninja, ghost faced killa, w/e... That should all work. Being an arcanist is not all that hard- being a wizard, cleric, or Druid is. But there ate spontaneous versions of all of these. Spontaneous casters ate much easier to play.

I will say that someone should have high level spells in the group by the end, and that an entire lack of arcane and divine magic will get you owned. But it sounds like you have that covered easily.

Sweetcheeks and I just put in a whole lot of time and mostly his money into providing a fantastic gaming room. This includes track lighting and a little tiki bar with a fridge. It's not quite done, but so far it is looking great.

We would seriously appreciate it if people would chip in to cover the fridge. If everyone chips in $25 we'll be set. Yes, it can hold ice.

We considered a true nerd room covered with dragon posters, but this is better.

On a side note, Mike is not a night person. As the evening wears on, he has less energy, not more.

Yes, it's a quarter to 3 and I'm on 2 Benadryl.

Well lets tell the whole story, I woke up at 5:50am moved a 10x15 storage unit full of stuff until 3pm and then some fool talked me into painting a large room in my basement until almost midnight. So lets say I am not a wake up early, move a whole bunch of crap with my ex-wife in 85 degree heat, then paint a room night person.

Do you realize that while yes you were up at 2:45am that you still had not been up the same number of hours as I had been when you left?

I'm just messing around, Cappy. I think most people have this tendency to get tired at night. I just thought it was ridiculous that each hour that passed I found more energy.

I'm more than willing to chip in. Is $25 enough?

Also, I may need to scour the web to find some dragon posters and the like.

It'll cover the fridge if everyone does it. Beyond that, I don't know where he wants to go with the room. He got the refrigerator and the painting stuff. I got the light fixture. I know we need to figure out how to get a sort of bar thing in there.

The reasoning is that at my house, you can sort of hear what's going on from the kitchen. There, you can't, but since it's a much larger room we can make it more comfortable.

All y'all bitches be boring. I want to talk about characters, Mike's lower rooms, alignments, prestige classes, Mike's basement, and all sorts of fun things. I've spent years in "I can't really talk to anyone about this" and now I get to talk about it and be a player, but all you bitches do is go to your job and do work and stuff. Weaksauce.
