SOs begging for attention during a raid gets a lot of press (usually implying the gamers are mean or uncaring), but what would you think if your wives were standing behind you during D&D, demanding attention? Raids are scheduled days in advance, after all.

The only social difference is tha the folk relying on you aren't in the same room. Pretend each of those guys is in a room with six friends whilst the chick hops around trying to monopolize his attention.

Those who think they didn't add stats- post your stats here in this thread!

I know damn well I didn't add the one for level 5.

Since the others just became level 10, I'm guessing they would remember at least that one.

I can guarantee that I've only added stat points at the core rule levels: 4 and 8 so far. I can't post my stats, because Sylvester is currently guarding my character sheet.

With the sliding scale and points awarded at 4th and 8th level, I'm pretty confident there's no way to verify whether all the points at 5th and 10th level were taken. Also, here and there you've made changes to ability scores. Well, at least once.

Still...
STR 10
INT 17
WIS 14
DEX 26
CON 17
CHA 27

My level 8 bonus was to Charisma. Level 4 was... I don't know. Intelligence or Wisdom, but I don't recall which. I'd put a 70% chance on Wisdom.

Remind me when I DM again to take all these house rules, print out 6 copies, and put them in binders. I know you did that once. Hell, I still have the binder.... hey, there it is. Holy fuck, it was this same world.

Quote:
-Arcata is a large continent.

-Humans are the dominant species of northern Arcata. To the east, past the Reaven Strait, is the "demihuman subcontinent" of East Arcata. To the elves, it is "Exta." To the southwest there are barbarian tribes of varying races.

-There are three human nations....

Damn, this is already useful! There's a lot of detail here... probably too much, but some of this would be awesome. Even Jay accidentally read a book recently.

Nice. Page 3 ends with "-Mark is also a big donkey butt."

I didn't add shit for ability scores. How do I know? Because I was following the regular fucking handbook. Either way, I need to rewrite my character sheet.

This will not be fun.

I actually got nonstop complaints last time from that, because of the volume and presentation. I thought (not entirely incorrectly) that the players would like to have a baseline of knowledge that their characters would know. A character living in Emerald should know about as much about Arcata as a character living in Waterdeep should know about Faerun. (Irrelevantly, the same Emeraldian should know more about Caligo than the Waterdorpa knows about Toril, but a hell of a lot of that is based on the history of the places and the era in question) ... however, I faced an issue. The PLAYER of the character in Emerald would know exactly what I told him about Caligo. He'd just assume that it's Europe with less nations, and not really give a shit as to why, without some explanation and backstory. Since that level of history shouldn't be revealed through the plot (unless the character is a third grader in history class), I needed a way to get it out there. Meanwhile, the PLAYER of a character in Forgotten Realms likely knowns FAR TOO MUCH about the place- and in fact, as DM, unless I was willing to read essentially all of the novels, the player would know more than me. While I made some effort with FR and a small amount with Greyhawk, I reached the inevitable conclusion that I could not get a level of expertise about these places and also generate the psychic energy needed to actually BUILD something there and live as the different characters, in the way numerous authors (and some of my players) already had.

So my conclusion was to print out data, including facts and small stories, giving some life to the world so that the players wouldn't feel lost, and so that game time wouldn't be based on spitting out the facts about the world. Players don't play FOR the world, they play for the feeling, and being committed to the world to a degree is part of that, but only part.

The downside was that it felt like a chore. This time I've tried a different tact of explaining and going into some detail on the stuff that is relevant, and of course another big part is that Zem and PAR have played in the world before. As for rules- I've put them online. As long as the server stays up, we should be able to do that, being as you all have internets in your pocket, a fact that was true a lot less satisfactory in the early aughts.

Quote:
Because I was following the regular fucking handbook.

Well, this stuff was brought up. You won't need to rewrite your character sheet over a couple numbers, however. I also don't like the implication that it's somehow crazy talk that I deviate from the book here. I put a lot of effort into the game to be sure that you are having more fun than you would just with the books! In any event, my houserules simply provide more shit at levels divisible by 5, which isn't many of the levels.

And yes, it will be impossible- so fuck posting the stats.

Ultimately, this is on the players to try to remember how they developed their characters. Once we are together, I'll simply hand out the level 10 pluses for these again, as apparently many of you forgot. In the case of feats, each feat should be recorded with the reason for getting it, like so:

1- Power Attack/Cleave
H- Weapon Focus Greatcock
F1- Point Blank Shot / Precise Shot
F2- Rapid Shot
3- Master Dicksmanship
F4- Dick Riding

You should never just have a big ol' list of feats, in case I reduce you in level- the source should always be there.

Here are the differences, at your level, between Caligo and the stock book:

5- At 5th level, up to THREE differences emerge:
-You may add 1 to an attribute that is NOT your highest. I'm pretty sure I made a big deal about this when it happened, and I'm pretty sure everyone at the table did this.
-You may write down Elemental Affinity: <your element> on your character sheet. If you do, you get a -2 to some saves, and a +1 to others. In addition, if you write down Elemental Affinity, you get to pick a feat.

To handle this, we'll do it this way: unless you are absolutely 100% sure you didn't add this when everyone but Rigby hit 5, just ignore the stat add, because I'm pretty positive I brought it up and made a stink about it. If you don't have Elemental Affinity on your sheet, you may add it, and a feat, at any level up. If you DO have Elemental Affinity, then you also have the extra feat in your list already, because there's no way you wrote this down without also taking the feat it buys you (Elemental Affinity is, in game terms, a "flaw"- a negative feat- even though it's almost always worth taking). So, again, look on your feat list. If your element is say, Fire, and you don't see Fire Affinity or Elemental Affinity: Fire, then you can write it down and immediately add a second feat. Example:
E: Water Affinity
E: Weapon Focus: Skin Kazoo

10- At 10th level, there are exactly THREE differences:
-You gain a feat. This feat is normally recorded like this:
T: Skill Focus: Profession: Whore
-You gain +1 to any one of your THREE lowest skills.
-After adding the above +1, you then gain a second +1 to any of your TWO lowest skills

Since you guys aren't far past 10, there's no way you forgot the level 10 modifications. If you don't think you have these, simply add them in- there's no way you'll accidentally cheat, because this is just a couple months ago (and of course, there's no way you'll deliberately cheat at all).

So, that's pretty much it. Mostly I think we just need to do the level 10 mods because I think you guys forgot about them when you hit 10.

Well, there may be a point between, say, a roughly sketched out map on notebook paper that only you get to have and a hundred pages in a notebook where a compromise that makes both parties happy may be found.

Also, I read the Moonshae books. They were fucking awful, but I read all three of them. Just saying...

Now that you mention it, I agree about the Level 5 stuff. I remember getting the +1 stat, and deciding NOT to take the Elemental Affinity.

Similarly, I'm quite sure that I did not get any Level 10 bonuses. But it sounds like we'll go through that at the start of next session.

And I read a ridiculous number of FR books.

You all definitely discussed all of this at level 5. I recall hearing the discussion about the stat bonus and elemental affinity while I had nothing to do but look at first level spells and pout.

H, by no means am I suggesting I don't appreciate all the work you have done. I have been more engrossed with this campaign than I can remember. I just seem to miss a ton of stuff when it comes to all the changes with levelling. It is taking me some getting used to. I am sorry if I appear to be slower about this when compared to everyone else here.

I definitely remember taking an ability at 5th because it let me qualify for improved two-handed fighting.

I definitely did not take anything at 10th, so I'll look into that for next time.

I too need to re-write my character sheet, but I'm not skered...

You spent about 8 minutes messing with the box, as detailed above. At this point, you have gathered:

-Everything on the three bodies.
-About 600g worth of fancy drapes. This is about a fifth of the drapes in the place. Some of the drapes are obviously pricey, but in other rooms they are much cheaper. None are magical.
-Another fine painting, this one of a massive stone castle, surrounded by faintly glowing white plants, most low to the ground, some as big as trees, but where you would expect to see a more elegant tree-trunk is instead what looks to be more mushroom-stem shaped. These plants are larger at the base, and seem to have a lot of roots. The castle overlooks a large pit at the back and "left" side, with a grand road leading up from the "right" of the castle. The scale of the castle is rather immense, and the denizens appear rather small by comparison. The background has a few stars, but the horizon seems to veer upwards at the left edge of the painting. The castle itself seems to glitter and sparkle on the black stone. There is a faint aura of illusion where the castle is painted, and your best guesses are that the glittering effect is likely facilitated by such faintly magical paints.
-Some weapons that were arranged near the exits.
-Some tura gems of minor enchantment lying around.
-Some books

Again, you are 8 minutes in. What's going on next? You have a permanent illusion of some things fucking Rim-Thul the Disrespected In His Own Home in the ass, but you don't get the kenders, because there aren't any, and your half-dragon-half-whateveryousaid is something you came up with, not a thing you've ever seen nor heard of.

Detect Secret Doors. I have at least 6 of them ready to go.

Study the painting to determine if moving it will ruin it. I'll go ahead and speak for Partykins that he may use Knowledge He Took Them All to see if the place is another plane, in the past, source of ghost trees, etc. I would do that myself but I am adorable instead of brilliant.

I should also list:

1)- Several oil lamps are in the house. Most have normal oil, but some have magical oil that glows with a blue flame, and the pixie is obviously visible when within 10 feet of those lamps. You haven't seen a source for the magical oil. The lamps themselves are superior, but still not very expensive.
2)- The cages of Fey Imprisonment. I assume you are destroying them, but if you don't have a fireball or similar method, you'll need to spend some time doing so.
3)- Furniture. It's mostly Arcatan in origin, but a couple rooms have a few Voriphan pieces. The Arcatan stuff is pretty high quality, the Voriphan stuff less so.

Moving the picture would almost assuredly be fine.

You spend 6 minutes walking about, and find a secret door behind one of the fancier draperies. What is everyone else doing during this time?

The scene is in Umbra, but you don't know where or what the castle is. Presumably it's an important castle there?

I will assume that's where the baddie went when he said Rimjob could come with him. I forget what the name was, but you shouted it. Palace of Pasty Guys and Eternal Darkness or something. As dangerous a question as this is... how optimistic are we that we can use this to "study" the location for a teleport?

Ok, so the oil flame has the same effect as the burning ghost trees when the ogre mages passed through their own little campfires. Hm.

I have fireballs.

Just so you are aware... I'm not making the sign of us until we leave. I did mention that. Right now there's nothing there. I don't want any random passing evil dragon to have notice that anything has happened until we our bugging out.

Without much effort, Keichi lifts the painting, and Morgrim helps roll it up, very gently. Of course any tears or lost paint can be mended, but maybe not magical paint! Morgrim is certain he could use Teleport Without Error to reach the Ebon Citadel, but Teleport lacks the requisite range.

No perm illusion yet, got it. Alenka, you up to anything whilst Rigby shoves the cages into the kitchen and fireballs them?

Alenka would be checking for seceret doors, looking for hidden panels in the floor, etc... hoping to find other goodies like fey wine.

A fancy deep blue Pallian rug conceals a hatch, presumably into a basement. The hatch isn't actually constructed to be hidden, so Rigby didn't find it. You find no traps. There are definitely foods of various types in the pantry. You haven't checked every wall unless you want to- there's draperies on almost all the walls, and that will take some time if you want to do that (and ofc Rigby's detect isn't foiled by draperies).

I was on travel this week and couldn't get to the loot list. I simply mentioned that you gathered "everything on the bodies" above.

Specifically:

Off of Rim-Thul The Cruel (NE Human Male [Water])

Proring +5- Top of the line for normal rings of protection, this offers +5 Deflection bonus to AC and +5 Resistance bonus to all saves.
Ring of Freedom of Movement- As in the book, this ring ensures you succeed on all grapple checks to prevent or escape from a grapple. You move and attack normally despite the impediments of spells designed to counter that (such as Web, Paralysis, Solid Fog, even Slow, but not Time Stop). You move and attack normally underwater or in gelatinous surroundings such as lava or oil, in which you can wield without penalty in melee edged and bludgeoning weapons. The ring does not afford other protections- in lava you would still take 20d6 fire a round, in water you would still eventually drown, unless you had normal mechanisms to prevent this.
Masterwork Kukri- this Kukri has Voriphan designs on it. It looks like heraldry, but I don't think any of you are good enough at Voriphan Heraldry to know more than that. It contains:
+4 Blue Tura
Masterwork Crossbow- This is built in Arcata, probably Dulal. It is crafted well, but is of no other signifigance. It contains:
+3 Blue Tura
Masterwork Quarterstaff- This light wood staff is probably imported from Pallia, or at least eastern Arcata (Miara). It is far more ornate than necessary. It contains:
+1 Gon (Dragonbane) Blue Tura
Rod of Lesser Widen- Up to three times a day when this rod is held (or otherwise used to cast), a spell of level 1 to 3 can be empowered with the Widen Spell metamagic feat. This feat increases the numeric dimensions for area by 100%, either doubling, quadrupling, or octupling the distance, area, or volume, depending on the spell. For instance, a Wide Fireball would be a 40 foot radius, and thus encompass eight times the volume of a normal 20 foot radius one. You can upgrade this to a normal Rod with 18 thousand gold worth of magical materials (levels 1-6).
Bountiful Scroll Case- This is a magical scroll case. Once you identify it, you will find: This scroll case appears to hold 8 scrolls, but it actually has a link to an extradimensional space. As a free action once a round on your turn, chose up to 8 scrolls out of all the scrolls in the case and all the scrolls in the extradimensional space. The 8 you chose are now in the scroll case, and all others from those two lists are now in the extradimensional space. The extradimensional space holds up to 100 scrolls.
Astral Key- This tiny key shaped apparition appears to be made of thousands of shifting stars. The stars are white or orange. It is cool to the touch, and has an invisible border in which the stars rotate slowly.

Scrolls (some of these are in the extradimensional space- ones marked with an asterisk are available for your immediate use):
Mage Armor x8
Silent Image x5
Sunlit Vision x5 (this 1st level spell does nothing for non-Umbrans)
Glitterdust x2
See Invisible x5
Darkness x3
Spectral Hand x2
Rage x2
Blink
Frost Armor x3 (this 3rd level spell is +5 armor bonus to AC, and everyone who strikes in melee makes a fort save or their movement is reduced to half for two rounds. Also grants Resist Water as the spell Resist Elements. Target: Personal. Duration: 1 hour / level (5 hours on these scrolls) )
Dimensional Anchor x2
Scrying x2
Arcane Eye x12
Detect Scrying x3
Rope Trick x4
Secure Shelter x3
Dimension Door x2
Fire Shield [Warm, Blue] x3
Fire Shield [Cold, Blue]x3
*Teleport x4
*Greater Invisibility
Mass Resist Fire x4
Mass Resist Water x5
Mass Resist Earth x2
Mass Resist Air x3
*Mneumonic Enhancer
Contact Other Plane
*Overland Flight
*Magic Jar
True Sight
Fabricate x4
*Antimagic Field
Wall of Iron
**Teleport Without Error (Greater Teleport)x2
Geas x2
Mass Eagle's Splendor x3
Mass Fox's Cunning x3
Eyebite
Disintegrate
Control Undead
Sequester
Magnificent Mansion x4 (notes specify extra invocations to make the liveried ghosts into "Voriphan women of appopriate tastes")
Binding (increase all calculated DCs by 4. Caster level 20)

Potions:
Heal Potion x2 (140 Hit Points)
Fire Protection (120 Hit Points) x4
Earth Protection (120 Hit Points) x2
Cure Serious Wounds (3d8+10) x7
Mage Armor x2
Greater Invisibility
Invisibility x4

Spell Components:
3000 GP of diamond dust (Stoneskin and others)
1250 GP of Mushroom Powder / Saffron (True Sight)
Tiny Gem-encrusted Ivory Statue of Rim Thul (1500 to buy, probably can only sell for 600)

Non weaponized loot:
Rim-Thul's robe is slightly magical- in fact, it looks like the type of robe popular amongst those who were not in favor of going to war with Voriph, worn in Emerald. The streamers on the sleeves and back have a mild enchantment to make them float in the Voriphan style, but are not nearly as pronounced or as vibrant as the ones actually scene in Voriph. Since Rim-Thul himself is half Voriphan, half Arcatan, it makes sense that he would also be attracted to such a hybrid style. The robe's colors flow from greens to yellows, but the scheme is very muted.
Pendant- This pendant has a small painting of a pale skinned Voriphan lady who no one recognizes. Her emotionless face looks to the left. The inside of the locket has a small inscription in ornate Voriphan, violet on a scrap of parchment. The pendant was hidden in a pocket of the robe, and has no chain.
Gold- Rim Thul carried 12 platinum pieces, 50 gold pieces, 20 silver pieces, and 18 copper pieces.

Off Lielia:

Proring +3
Ring of Sustenance
Non weaponized loot:
Robe- This gold encrusted and jeweled garment in Kuromeran style is easily worth 5000 gold. Or it will be, once you clean off all the blood stains and cast mending for the rips and tears. Be sure to leave her naked body in a horrible position, because you are all high class.
Gold- Lielia carried 2 platinum pieces, 65 gold pieces, 40 silver pieces, and anything counted in copper she just stole or ignored.

Rooshcaloun- Did I leave this there or something? Still looking for this turkey.

I'll take a stab at it just so we don't sit there whining about who gets what potion for a two hours. I tried to be reasonably fair. I mean, there's no doubt the biggest loot goes to the arcane casters simply because we killed a major arcane caster.

Unclaimed:
I don't know what all of your rings and tura gems are. Obviously someone is going to want that ring of protection +5 (including me). I think the rest of you have some sort of hierarchy where you know who gets the best ring. So just figure this out. Anything not claimed will go into "Items to sell" pile.
Ring of Protection +5
Ring of Protection +3
Ring of Protection +3
Ring of Sustenance
Ring of Chromatic Resistance
+1 Gon (Dragonbane) Blue Tura
+4 Blue Tura
+3 Blue Tura
+2 Pa Red Tura, Elemental II Fire (+4 equivalent)
Masterwork Quarterstaff
Masterwork Quarterstaff, white wood with small critters
Masterwork Kukri with Voriphan Heraldy
Masterwork Crossbow
Woven Shadow Robe

For investigation:

Pendant- This pendant has a small painting of a pale skinned Voriphan lady who no one recognizes. Her emotionless face looks to the left. The inside of the locket has a small inscription in ornate Voriphan, violet on a scrap of parchment. The pendant was hidden in a pocket of the robe, and has no chain.

Pendant of ? - This steel pendant with a steel chain has some manner of crystal inside it. The real shocking thing is the fire contained in the crystal- it slowly flickers, ranging from red, to violet, to blue, to yellow. But mostly to red. This is shockingly powerful, especially for such an amateur, and under detect it glows brightly with divine fire magic. This is unquestionably a minor artifact, and likely the way Reltharoof had such dominion over fire elementals.

Blue flame Oil.

Painting of Ebon Citadel.

Great apologies! Rooshcaloun is still at large. The Umbran with the fire expertise you killed was Reltharoof, and I found his sheet. I definitely left his spell list on the table for Morgrim, but I may have another copy.

One Umbran got away because you're a douche. So was Rooshcaloun there and he was the one who escaped?
