There is an imprisoned efreet. She was the first efreet, and this stick was modified to draw power from her. The Night Friend Loyalists (NFL) had the magic stick. They used it to control animals so they would go fight some demon invaders. They are opposed by the Wildfire druids (WFD). Controlling animals is bad, and so anyone opposing them must be good.


So the theory is that the NFL is evil. They modified the stick, or possibly found it this way, and drew power from the efreet. That might sound bad, but do we know anything about the efreet that comes from anyone other than the WFD? Literally the only piece of evidence that the WFD is good and NFL is bad is that the NFL has been controlling animals to stop demons. But let's look at that... I don't think any druids like sending animals into battle to die, so another take might be that they are doing what might be necessary to save these people from demons, which may include using animals this way.


Based on what I know, here is another possibility...
WFD is an evil organization that wants the world to burn. It's right in the name.
NFL is opposing invading demons, and they are unhappily using what soldiers they have (animals).
The efreet was imprisoned rightfully by gods or dragons or whatever, perhaps for trying to burn the world.
The efreet is essential to letting the world burn for the WFD, and we just freed her.
