Feb 28th

On the 9th of Eleint the party went shopping. They looked around and visited Koll Almars, the northman priest of Tempus. He questioned their need of potions if they didn't plan on getting injured. He found some potions in the back and offered them for a low cost, but the party preferred to purchase them from Yorath in Yorath's Invigorating Beverages for quite a bit more money. They would have gone to the druids, but they remembered they were all gone or dead.

The next day the party set out for Freeman's Down, which led to the High Druidess Pass into Myrloch Vale. They encountered some undead from the battle that happened here about forty years ago when a few soldiers, a lot of villagers, and the future High King Tristan held back the coming Northmen. Moving onward, they climbed high into the mountains and crossed the saddle pass between the peaks named Imogene and Izora. They avoided arrowhawks and then traveled down into the vale.

Their first encounter was with a beautiful unicorn named Leocadio. The unicorn had been working with Robin and the other creatures of the vale to return the natural order to the place. They have done great work, but pockets of evil still linger, and the land must heal from when it was ripped apart. Leocadio also commented that he thinks he is far too old for a unicorn, but he doesn't really know how long a unicorn is supposed to live.

The party circled around some lounging manticores, summoned a monkey to help them cross a chasm, and defeated a pack of displacer beasts. Then they managed to meet Robin, the High Druidess of Chauntea on the 18th day of Eleint at the moonwell by the Myrloch.

She hears their tale and is somewhat surprised, though she has seen some people snooping around. She understands "She ends in the beginning, and the spark will dwell in her watery heart." She knows that the moonwells were her way of reaching the world. They were her eyes and hands, but the Earthmother's heart was the Myrloch. This is the center of life in the Moonshaes. The pulse of the lands is smoother here, and this is where it began on the shore of this water. She has seen people out on boats, but they will not find it. She knows the passage to the heart can only be found in daylight at midnight. She also knows that Janath, the Earthmother, was killed by Bhaal before he was forced from the realm. Some remnant of his power remains watching over the spark of Janath.

The party packed into her little hut with the bear Buster Jr outside. The next night, they set out in a little boat. Robin helped them find it by asking Chauntea for the gift of daylight at midnight. They found a tiny crystal island with a door in the ground. Robin left them there and they made some jokes about listening at the door and checking for traps, but instead they just opened it. The crystals exploded and they were all injured except the rogue. Then they descended into darkness.

They found themselves with an evil voice offering them four doors, but only to choose one. They were marked with ancient descriptors of the elements. As they opened one door, the others turned to stone. They faced water elementals and another choice. They fought ice elementals.

Now they are wounded, but resting. They complain about not having any money. There is a door ahead of them. They have just passed the autumnal equinox, and a door sits in front of them.

Will our heroes prevail? Will the door open? Will Bhall crush his enemies? Who is behind all this? Find out next time!

We actually spent less, we just got level 1 potions. The confused priest could have been offering us cure minors for that price, remember.

Signy pet the unicorn! And then you made phallic references involving the horn. It was all excellent!

I later looked up the DC for jumping a 35 foot chasm, and it's rather harsh- like 35.

Granted, that is a long jump.

It's good that she did too! She was pretty much the top authority on this kind of thing. I'm surprised she had no guardians but an easily poisoned bear.

Gotta say, this quote works much better in 3ed. "Found in continual light at midnight" totally doesn't have the same ring to it.

She then mocked us, forcing us to spend 8 hours to memorize new healing spells instead of tossing out a couple heals, which I'm sure she was gonna need for her active life of walking in the woods and talking with a bear.

Elves don't rest, they wait.

This is mostly our fault, with small exceptions being the transdimensional dungeon of fictional loot that disappears and the occasional fighters-in-the-employ-of-evil who have no equipment worth salvaging. We're on an island of mostly good people, and it's not a superbly wealthy island in any event, and we've spent most of the time following plot clues instead of doing anything meant to generate income independently. Every PC I've had at low level be flush with cash or items has taken matters into their own hands, after all.

I'll probably make a thread for the players to brainstorm ideas in. At this point it's obvious to the characters that we have a party of similar ideas and goals, and that we aren't planning on all leaving our separate ways once this long term interruption to our travel plans is over, so we should probably set about acquiring magic and arms powerful enough to guard us versus the inevitable foes we'll fight.

There is a door ahead of them. They have just passed the autumnal equinox, and a door sits in front of them.

WHOA now, I wouldn't call Markozius that yet...

Will the door open?

Of course it will. The entire dungeon is some kind of digestive tract, and this door is merely one more sphincter. Adventurer particles enter, and I think we are first ground together by elementals in the gizzard, and then probably bathed by some kind of acid.

Somewhere on the other side of the world will soon be several little brown balls, one intermingled with an indigestible rainbow cloak.

The problem with your lack of funds is that as soon as you acquire money, you spend it. Did everyone have to purchase masterwork weapons? You spend the money you have. While it's a good idea to buy potions, the party has collectively used them poorly. I think you're all getting the hang of it, but you'd even use them when you weren't in battle sometimes. That's just silly.

I'll be a hero to the people once I build them a blazing fire with the pages of a spellbook and shelter them in a rainbow-colored tent.

It would be my greatest joy to have two players fight to the death. Maybe the others will join in. That would be glorious.

That describes us to a 'T'.
