Well, that and I don't have an awesome amulet of wonderfully normal time. The Mayan religion included many instances of time travel, both forward and back, and they seemed to recognize the perils of a potential paradox as well as having religious objects disappear for long periods of time. They had a special term for when a valuable object was lost in time. They called it "weaksauce."
