Both of these spells have a cast time of one round. Additionally, neither has a range of touch. This means that they are actually full round actions to cast, that fire off at the beginning of the next turn.


One of the changes Pathfinder made was to add a 1 round casting time to Silence- though it is correctly a standard in 3.5.


If we want to leave them as standard actions, that's fine by me. I've been playing them wrong for a decade, so I don't give a hoot.

Let's try playing them correctly. They are usually cast before a battle anyway. It's not like you guys are really suffering for buffs.

Also reduce person needs like a -4 on the save or something. I don't think you can find a worse combat spell.

It's a combat spell, but not one that anyone ever saves against. It's a buff for casters, especially gnomes & halflings. Boost to ranged touches, AC.

That at least makes some sense. It also lets you go into small spaces, especially if you are already tiny.

In 2ed and before, it was a feasible thing to cast on an enemy, so as to reduce their damage. It's pretty ineffective about that in 3.0+, however.

I realized it was a buff for me as well once I get some range touch attacks going. An invisible pixie sorcerer with a +2 to AC and +2 to hit on range touch attacks or my sleep arrows... yes.

Well, the issue is, it's not a buff to every caster- you really should be flying before you use this, for instance, and it makes you even weaker to grapples (to the point where a character who would not normally grapple would give it a shot in some cases).

Yes, but it used to not suck balls. As in, being smaller in combat was actually a bad thing.
