On the 26th of Winter's Reach, the party bravely sent a bat and a dragon into a hole in the ground in a cave. They ultimately determined that metal devouring monsters lurked below. These monsters, having done nothing but eat what the gods dictated they should, were quickly beaten to death by scantily clad adventurers with sticks. An underwater passage awaited the party, and a short venture by Livid revealed that biting fish lurked in the dark waters. After a quick nap, Brother Eisen exploited the nuances of the divine blessing Water Breathing, and on the 27th, they ventured into the water. The fish were dispatched, and the underwater maze was quickly navigated. After a battle with wraiths, the party kindly gave lightning bolts a home and announced their presence to anyone waiting in the next room.

As luck would have it, the next room was occupied by a lich named Rumen Lel and his shadow mastiffs. Rumen explained he was not surprised to see another group of adventurers coming to die. After all, they can either wait a little longer to die or die in combat, but the matter is resolved... the world is dead. Rumen and the coven will become masters of two worlds, and none will be left living. Dressed in beautiful red robes, battle began. The mastiffs howled, and the party felt terror. Some even dropped their weapons and ran, yet they would eventually find the will to press on.

Rumen had an interesting strategy in combat. It was to cast fireball on as many of the bold adventurers as possible, repeatedly, until he ran out, while flying out of reach of melee weapons. Having spent centuries honing this fight, it appeared victory would be his. He considered whether he would keep some alive to experiment on them. After a moment he decided there wasn't much point in experimenting on live people since there wouldn't be any left soon.

Just as the last hope was disappearing for the party, they ate some leaves. The fallen were suddenly fresh and ready for combat. Rumen was shocked, but he destroyed moments later.

The party then searched the lair, and they found a variety of information. There were potions and scrolls, gold, and a variety of books including the collected works of Alexandrivis Torator and Vinesti Lang (both authors of courtly love from the 200s with unknown patrons).

More importantly, correspondence was uncovered to verify the interest in godstones. It was clear he was overseeing the research and passing it along. There were some references to each of the known godstones and efforts made to recover them. Some, those lost at sea, no efforts were made as this coven clearly had enough without them. There are references a successful small test of the "plan" carried out in an abandoned temple.

Finally, a few names were mentioned Ulric Cowan wished to meet with Rumen and Ozur Gresk at discuss a possible problem with dragons. They are to meet on the 20th of Spring's Breadth "under Monksdown."

Continuing on, there was an old, unused bedroom. A search revealed an iron box, and that box had paper in it with some magic writing and, in several languages, the words "Fuck you too." Upon destroying the paper, a magical ring and bracers appeared.

The party met with Flods, who then led them out of the fens. Shortly after reaching solid land, they encountered a ghost... but not the sort of ghost moving about haunting them. The ghost seemed to be waiting for them ont he trail. The party approached, and he introduced himself.

His name was/is Hilliam Grosser. He was a tanner outside of Port Hestin, and he was obviously dead. He was married to Karsa, and this had two children, Pilsa and Bortin. The two of them had their troubles, but Hilliam thought things were improving. He had recently gotten an inheritance from a wealthy uncle, and he thought that would mean they would argue less about money. Instead, a couple days later, he found that he was paralyzed after eating dinner. He had been poisoned. Then he saw Droter Sporns, and it became clear Karsa had been with him for some time. They thought he was dead, and Karsa told him to dump his body in fens. Droter carried him out there, and tossed him it, face up. As he disappeared into the murky waters, he saw a flash of red overhead just as everyone did on the solstice. Something happened, something he cannot explain. Instead of going to the realm of the dead, he was stuck here... but he was without rage, and without powers. He feels some concern for his children, but not vengeance.

He was unable to find any more information. His family is gone, and it turns out his neighbors are unwilling to speak to the ghost. Instead, they seem to run away.

The party will spend a day training and shopping in Port Hemstin. Starting on the 1st of Spring's Rise, which is the first day of 385 BE, they will be ready to help Hilliam Grosser.

I am very sorry, you guys probably would have picked up the gold the lich had. I suspect you even wanted me to tell you what it was, and I'm pretty sure I forgot.

You found 4700gp.

Crap on a cracker! He also was wearing Bracers AC+4.

I was so worried about the ring I sort of forgot the other stuff.

The best part was when the Lich accused us of cheating.

Now that we are down to one leaf, I feel we should begin discussing things like "who can raise dead" and "who is playing the second cleric when we wipe".
